1. Installing AiData and connecting to ASUSTOR NAS

AiData brings access to your NAS’s files to your smartphone or tablet. AiData helps you browse and manage files on your NAS directly from your phone or tablet. AiData also supports file sharing, making it easy to share files right from your smartphone and tablet, bringing your data to your fingertips.

AiData is available for both iOS and Android. In this course we will be using the Android version of AiData as an example.

1.1 Installing AiData

• Search AiData on Google Play or the apple app Store.
• QR code shortcuts are below.
• Download and install the app.

1.2 Connect to your NAS using AiData

After installing AiData, there are a variety of ways to sign in to the ASUSTOR NAS from AiData.

If using AiData for the first time:

Please ensure Wi-Fi on your device is turned on. Your NAS will not appear if it is not on the same network.

• Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
• Select your NAS.
• Enter the ADM account and password, and click Login.
• If your NAS cannot be found in the list, click to reattempt to find your NAS.

• Enter the IP address, DDNS domain or Cloud ID of your NAS to connect.
• Enter the ADM account and password.
• If using an IP address or DDNS, click Advanced and enter the correct ADM HTTP or HTTPS port.
• Click Login.

If you have installed other ASUSTOR mobile apps and signed in to your NAS:

• The new ASUSTOR mobile apps share mobile login data with other ASUSTOR mobile apps by default to make using ASUSTOR mobile apps easy. This can be turned off.

• Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
• Select your previously-signed-in NAS or one of the NAS devices located in the same network of your mobile device.
• Enter the ADM account and password, and click Login.

Note: It is recommended to enable the EZ-Connect service and use Cloud ID to sign in.

1.3 Share login info and manage server list

The new ASUSTOR mobile apps share mobile login data with other ASUSTOR mobile apps by default to make using ASUSTOR mobile apps easy. This can be turned off.

• Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
• Click on .
• Login synchronization can be enabled or disabled here.
• Select a saved server and click to remove login information.

1.4 Waking your NAS with AiData

After logging in to your NAS with AiData, you'll be able to wake up your NAS both within and outside your local network, provided settings are set correctly. Click here to read more about Wake on LAN (WOL) and Wake on LAN (WOW) support.

• Click to the right of Host/IP or Cloud ID to open the server list.
• Click to wake a selected NAS.
• Your NAS will need time to wake up. Please wait before attempting to log into your NAS.

2. Accessing data on an ASUSTOR NAS

In addition to browsing files in an ASUSTOR NAS with a web browser, shared folders are directly accessible on your phone or tablet through AiData. Mounted CIFS folders, USB external devices, MyArchive hard drives and EZ Sync synchronization data are all supported and can be easily accessed, moved or copied from within AiData.

2.1 Browsing NAS shared folder files

After using AiData to connect to your NAS, click on Folders to browse all files with proper permissions in shared folders, CIFS folders, USB external devices and MyArchive hard drives on your ASUSTOR NAS.

AiData browses data in list mode by default. Click to switch to grid mode.

Menu options:

• Select all: Click to select all subfolders and files in the folder simultaneously.
• Upload: Select files from your phone or tablet to upload to a folder on your NAS.
  

  

• Create folder: Add a subfolder in this folder.
• Sort by: Sorting options by name, update time or file size.
  

  

The followings actions will switch the page to selection mode:

• Long pressing the list item
• Clicking Select All on the upper right menu
• Clicking Select on the individual item menu

Menu options for selected items: Options vary depending on if one or more items are selected.

• Share: Sharing selected files to other mobile apps or create a Share Link. If a folder is selected, only the creation of a Share Link is supported.
  

  

• Download: Downloading selected files or folders to the default download folder on phone or tablet. The default download folder can be changed in Settings.
• Remove: Deleting selected files or folders from the NAS. If the recycle bin is enabled, deleted data will be moved to the recycle bin.
• Download to: Downloading a selected file or folder to a select target folder on phone or tablet.
  

  

• Copy: Copying selected files or folders to other NAS folders with proper permissions.
• Copy to EZ Sync: Copying selected files or folders to EZ Sync to be synchronized to another EZ Sync device.
  

  

• Move: Moving selected files or folders to other NAS folders with proper permissions.
• Compress: Compressing selected files or folders into a compressed file.
• Rename: Renaming a selected single file or folder.
• Open with: Selecting other apps installed on your Android phone or tablet to open a single file.
  

  

• Add to My Favorite: Adding a selected single folder to My Favorites category.
• Information: Displaying additional information about a single file or folder.

Recycle Bin menu options: Options vary depending on if one or more items are selected.

• Empty Recycle Bin: Deleting all data in the recycle bin.

• Restore: Restoring selected files or folders to the original folder.
• Download: Downloading selected files or folders to the default download folder of a phone or tablet.
• Remove: Deleting selected files or folders from the recycle bin.
• Copy: Copying selected files or folders to other NAS folders with proper permissions.
• Move: Moving selected files or folders to other NAS folders with proper permissions.

2.2 Browsing NAS EZ Sync files

Click on EZ Sync to browse all files inside EZ Sync Manager.

EZ Sync menu items:

• Select all: Click to select all subfolders and files in the folder simultaneously.
• Upload: Select files from your phone or tablet to upload to a EZ Sync folder on your NAS.
  

  

• Import to EZ Sync: Importing data in the NAS shared folder to EZ Sync and synchronizing to another device set by EZ Sync.
  

  

• Create folder: Add a subfolder in this folder.
• Sort by: Sorting options by name, update time or file size.

• Export to Shared Folder: Exporting the latest version of selected files or folders to a NAS shared folder. Files in a shared folder will not be synchronized with EZ Sync.
  

  

• Move: Moving selected files or folders to other EZ Sync folders.
• Rename: Renaming a selected single file or folder.
• Open with: Selecting other apps installed on your Android phone or tablet to open a single file.

2.3 Browsing multimedia files on an ASUSTOR NAS

AiData can directly browse images as well as stream music and videos on a phone or tablet with a built-in multimedia player.

Click on Open with... to select other appropriate apps installed in an Android device to play music or videos.

AiData can also open other files stored on an ASUSTOR NAS by selecting appropriate apps on a phone or tablet through AiData.

3. Managing downloaded files

AiData can browse downloaded files to your phone or tablet even when not connected to an ASUSTOR NAS. Click Downloaded to browse downloaded files on your phone or tablet offline.

Menu options:

• Select all: Click to select all subfolders and files in the folder simultaneously.
• Create folder: Add a subfolder in this folder.
• Sort by: Sorting options by name, update time or file size.

Menu options for selected items: Options vary depending on if one or more items are selected.

• Share: Sharing selected files to other mobile apps. Downloaded folders cannot be shared.
  

  

• Upload: Select files from your phone or tablet to upload to a folder on your NAS.
• Remove: Deleting selected files or folders.
• Rename: Renaming a selected single file or folder.
• Open with: Selecting other apps installed on your Android phone or tablet to open a single file.
  

  

• Information: Displaying additional information about a single file or folder.

4. Monitoring file transfers

After using AiData to connect to your NAS, click Tasks to view the file transfers as well as monitor tasks on your NAS.

Upload, Download: Shows the status of in progress, completed, or failed file transfers.

• Displays the filename, source and destination folders.
• Ability to pause and resume transfers any time.
• Click to cancel a transfer task and it will be removed from the queue.
  

  

• Ability to check the destination folder in the completed list and click to clear all completed tasks.
  

  

• For failed tasks, click to restart a transfer or remove the task.
  

  

Task Monitor: Shows the status of tasks on a logged-in NAS.

• Display the action, filename and status of individual tasks. Click to clear all tasks.
• Click to filter different task actions.
• Click to clear all completed tasks.

5. Additional notes

Click the user icon to set up more options.

• Run in background: When enabling this option, AiData will be allowed work in the background. This option will block battery optimization for AiData. This will cause continuous power consumption of the device. The default setting is off. Only for Android devices.
  

  

• Only use Wi-Fi and Ethernet for transfers: Options are available to only allow transfer files through Wi-Fi or Ethernet to avoid extra charges for mobile networks. The default setting is on.
• Transfer Conflicts: Choices are available to skip, overwrite files or always ask when encountering the same file or folder name. The default setting is to always ask.
  

  

• Download directory: The default download folder on a phone or tablet can be changed here.
• Appearance: AiData supports light and dark themes. Change settings for this here.
  

  

• Passcode lock: When passcode lock is enabled, you will need to enter a passcode before being able to use the app to connect to your NAS. Biometrics is another way ASUSTOR apps for phones and tablets use to properly authenticate you. Using biometrics to unlock ASUSTOR apps for phones and tablets is faster and safer and significantly enhances mobile privacy while ensuring that access to your NAS and personal data does not fall into the wrong hands.
  

  

• AiData makes it easy to obtain technical support. Click "Contact support" located in the settings page, or click More to find the option to contact support. Ensure you are signed in to be able to provide relevant information in your support ticket.
