Reverse Proxy

ADM 3.5.2 now supports reverse proxies. Reverse proxy servers help retrieve resources on behalf of a client and send data to a client in a secure fashion. This enables other NAS devices containing sensitive information that may be vulnerable in an attack to remain offline and away from the internet to retrieve internet data with HTTPS security.


Add a reverse proxy:

1. Create new proxy domain

  • Setup proxy domain:
    • Title: Input a name for easy identification.
    • Protocol: Select HTTP or HTTPS for the domain.
    • Server name: Select * or enter a DDNS hostname.
    • Port number: Set an unused port number.
    • Network interface: Select network interface for connection.
    • Path: Input a path for the first proxy domain rule, otherwise a slash (/) is sufficient.
    • Enable EZ-Connect port forwarding: To allow remote access, it’s recommended to enable port forwarding.
  • Setup Reverse proxy domain:
    • Name: Input a name for easy identification.
    • Protocol: Select HTTP or HTTPS for the host.
    • Hostname: Input the hostname or LAN IP of the server.
    • Port number: Input the port number of the host.
    • Path: Input the path for connecting the host, otherwise a slash (/) is also sufficient.
    • URL redirection: This path will either be filled after testing the connection, or will be left empty.
    • Test connection: Tests to ensure all above information is correct, and if a redirection URL is needed.

Reverse proxy domain information will be listed after completing setup. Typing in the MyASUSTOR web address [https://yourddns.myasustor.com:8880/] in a browser will access the server on [http://192.168.101.101:8000/].


2. Adding a new rule in an existing proxy domain

  • Select a proxy domain: Title is not able to be edited.
    • Proxy domain: Select an existing proxy domain for this new rule.
    • Path: Input a path for this rule. The path should be different with other rules in the same proxy domain.
    • Enable EZ-Connect port forwarding: Enable port forwarding to allow remote access.
  • Setup Reverse proxy domain:
    • Name: Input a name for easy identification.
    • Protocol: Select HTTP or HTTPS for the host.
    • Hostname: Input the hostname or LAN IP of the server.
    • Port number: Input the port number of the host.
    • Path: Input the path for connecting the host, otherwise a slash (/) is also sufficient.
    • URL redirection: This path will either be filled after testing the connection, or will be left empty.
    • Test connection: Tests to ensure all above information is correct, and if a redirection URL is needed.

Information for new reverse proxy domains will be listed on the front page after completing setup. Typing in the MyASUSTOR web address plus the hostname [https://yourddns.myasustor.com:8880/as6602t] in a web browser will access the server at [http://192.168.101.102:8000/].


Managing reverse proxies:

  • Editing a reverse proxy domain

    Edit the title, protocol, server name and port number of the proxy domain. Updated settings will apply automatically to all its associated rules.

  • Removing a reverse proxy domain

    Clicking Remove will delete a selected proxy domain and its associated rules.

  • Editing a reverse proxy rule

    Edit the name, protocol, hostname, port number and the path of the reverse proxy domain rule, and enable or disable a rule temporarily.

  • Removing a reverse proxy rule

    Clicking Remove will delete a selected reverse proxy rule. Deleting the last rule will also delete its corresponding domain.
