Q: Why the NAS status became "uninitialized" after system reboot?

2024-12-17

If the NAS status becomes “uninitialized” after the system reboots, it means the NAS is somehow not able to recognize the system partition in the disks during the system boot-up.

You can click the “uninitialized” button in the ASUSTOR Control Center window to launch the browser and visit the ADM initialization instruction page and get some more information about it.

Here are the scenarios you might encounter when using the browser to visit the ADM initialization instruction page.

  1. No HDDs detected.

You can try removing the installed HDD and inserting a test HDD to see if it can detect the test HDD. This will help clarify whether it is a NAS hardware problem not able to detect the installed HDD or if the original HDD has failed.

  1. Initialization instruction and update ADM.

If you see the ADM update option, you can try to update ADM to refresh the system partition, it will download the ADM image from the server and do a system fresh install and reboot without removing data in the volume.

  1. Terms and conditions page and the 1-Click setup/Custom Setup page

If you see the 1-Click Setup or Custom Setup options page, DO NOT proceed further if the HDDs contain data. Proceeding further will create a volume on the installed HDDs, erasing the data and formatting the filesystem.
